The Waterproof Makeup Challenge Part 1

Boyfriend and I are going with a large group to a waterpark next weekend. Hopefully my Book of the Month box comes by then as I am in need of something to read by the pool. I love the site, but the tracking they use in incredibly inefficient. It does not give me an estimated delivery date, just states where it’s been. And there hasn’t been any updated tracking information since THURSDAY! Come on. I really don’t believe that there hasn’t been an update. And I really don’t give a rats ass where my product has been – I just want to know when I am going to get it.

Anyways, so waterpark. Since I am that girl who always wants a full face (I like makeup, ok) I have been on the hunt for products that won’t make me look like a villain from Supernatural after getting dunked by a waterslide.

So of course I went to Sephora the other day and spent way too much money. I might as well have a direct deposit type situation with the store, as it gets most of my spending money anyway. I picked up a few products that advertised their waterproofness – foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, setting spray. I figured my usual powder highlighter didn’t matter that much if it wore off, and since there were no face primers specially labeled as waterproof, I just went with a full size of the Smashbox one I’ve gone through so many samples of.

I definitely needed to test these products before the main event. The last thing I want is to be super confident in my look then end up with mascara everywhere. I’ve worn the look a few days this week just to see if it was long lasting in general (news flash – it was) and tomorrow I plan on doing a splash test to see what happens when my face gets covered in water.

The waterproof foundation I chose was the Urban Decay All Nighter. Guys, this is probably the best foundation I have ever used in my entire life.

The coverage is AMAZING. The packaging states that there is no need to apply multiple coats or build your coverage, and they’re right. With only a thin layer everything on my face is so smooth, even hiding the breakout I had going on the first day I wore this. The only place where it isn’t perfect is the scar I have next to my lip, and nothing covers that right. Also, there is next to no fading, even after I was out in the sun most of the day at my friend’s cookout last weekend. Towards the end of the day there is some slight show through of the redness of my nose (thank you allergies), but you can really only see this if you’re up close. If I stand far enough away from the mirror as I would from the average person it still looks as good when I’m getting ready to take it off as it did when I put it on. No other foundation has ever lasted this long on my face without some serious fading. I don’t know if I just now have the perfect combination of primer, foundation, and setting spray or if it’s the foundation all by itself, but this product is almost definitely going to be a regular in my rotation.

The only thing I will say is that there is some oxidation. I recommend testing the product and leaving it on for several minutes before you determine which is the best shade for you. This is probably not a good buy it online foundation.

I’ll reveal the rest of the products I got when I share the results of my splash test, and I’ll be sure to post before and after pictures of whether or not it makes it through the waterpark.

Benefit Cosmetics Hello Flawless Foundation Review

Normally I gravitate towards BareMinerals for foundation selections, but this time I was feeling something different. Thanks to the lovely little tool that Sephora has that can tell you everything they have in your perfect shade, I had quite a few options. After some very short deliberation, I settled on one by Benefit Cosmetics. The product names and packaging of all their products is super cute, and I have read so many rave reviews that I felt it was time to try some for myself.

I went with a powder formula as when I bought it summer was still in full swing, and my house doesn’t have air conditioning. Powder foundations are less likely to have face melt off. I have been using this product for just over a month, so I have had enough time to really use and understand the product.

Conveniently, the little foundation compact includes both a sponge and brush. The instructions say to use the brush for sheer coverage and the sponge for medium to full coverage. After using both, I prefer the sponge. The brush’s coverage is just too sheer for my liking; I still feel like I have to do more spot color correcting than I wish. The sponge is much better – I get full coverage that lasts, and my additional concealing is very minimal. However, the sponge that come with it gets gross very easily and doesn’t wash clean. You have to either buy more sponges or do what I have been doing since I threw out the included sponge – move on to your BeautyBlender. The BeautyBlender application has so far been my favorite. The coverage is even better than with the benefit sponge, it takes only like 3 minutes to do my whole face, and I can wash the BeautyBlender clean.

I love the color options in this foundation. There is a shade that matches my face perfectly, something that feels like a rare option in makeup. The coverage is awesome, and the fact that you can choose less or more is great. It lasts all day and doesn’t feel heavy on my face. The one downside is the actual compact isn’t lasting as long as I would hope. I’ve only been using it like a month, and I already have about a 1/4 inch circle where I have hit pan. Which might actually be a good thing. Sometimes I feel like I use my foundations longer than I should. This way I use it up in good time. We’ll see how quickly I go through the rest.

Overall score : 4/5 Would definitely buy again and try other Benefit products
